Business Biography

Steve Keil is the CEO of MammothDB– a start-up company in big data analytics! MammothDB provides interactive and inexpensive business analytics based on Hadoop, and compatible with standard SQL reporting tools. He’s also the CEO of Xentio, an outsourcing / software application development company based in Bulgaria.

Prior to MammothDB and Xentio, Steve was the CEO of Sciant – Bulgaria’s largest software application development company. Steve helped grow Sciant to over 300 people, including opening offices in Vietnam, before the acquisition of Sciant by VMware (VMW) in late 2007. Earlier, Steve worked in Australia as the general manager of BMCMedia’s consulting division, Asia Pacific’s largest online advertising agency at the time.

Speaking & Teaching Biography

Steve is an active public speaker, with his ‘Play Manifesto’ speech featured on TED.com More recently, he was a keynote speaker at The Next Web 2012, appealing for change in traditional business practices – to be replaced by more modern and human approaches. Steve has given numerous keynotes and speeches on topics as various as Human Resource Management to Nomadic Entrepreneurship!

Steve is currently a Marketing professor at Sofia University, and has taught both Business and Marketing courses through the past four years. In 2012, he taught ‘Digital Ecosystems’ – a joint venture course by Carnegie Mellon University and Sofia University. Before teaching at Sofia University, Steve taught Small Business, Entrepreneurship, and Management Information Systems at the American University in Bulgaria.

General Interests

Steve is passionate about improving “business as usual” to better suit our individual needs, along with our sense of community and social responsibility. Just because we’ve always done business a certain way, doesn’t mean they’re still the best ways anymore! The past does not equal the future, and every new development in our environment is a challenge for us to respond with new ideas, beliefs, and operating systems of behavior.

Steve enjoys traveling and adventure, strongly believing that exposure to new cultures and nature serves to develop both our global perspective and our wisdom. Well, and it’s also just fun! Steve tries to bring a “Work Hard, Play Hard” attitude to life, learning, friends, and family!
